Singapore Extends Warm Deepavali Greetings, Celebrates with Inclusivity and Community Spirit

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, in his Deepavali message, wished the Hindu community good with the importance of the festival, in marks the triumph of light over evil and good over evil. “Deepavali reminds us to be gentle, empathetic, and bridge-builders across communities,” he said in a release published on government media channels.

Across the island, Little India was where the celebrations took place, aglow with festive lights and decorations. According to The Straits Times, there were hundreds of foreign workers who gathered in Gardens by the Bay for a Deepavali special celebration that included traditional music, dance, games, and a lamp-lighting ceremony. Organized by volunteers and community groups, the event made the foreign workers feel at home away from home, even though they were far from their families during the festival.

At Little India, the non-profit Krsna’s Free Meals began serving breakfast and distributing care packages as early as 4.30 a.m. to migrant workers and the needy. “You are not forgotten,” wrote the organisers, repeating the feelings of appreciation and grace Deepavali symbolises (The Straits Times, Oct. 20, 2025).

Singapore Police Force issued a public advisory prior to the celebrations, warning of heavy human and car flow in the vicinity of Serangoon Road. Police requested citizens and visitors to exercise utmost vigilance, plan their journeys in advance, and keep their valuables safe (police.gov.sg, Oct. 17, 2025).

Singapore’s High Commission in India also showed similar sentiments in the greetings, posting festive greetings, and rangoli and lamp pictures on social media. “A very happy #Diwali to all! May this Diwali season bring joy and happiness to your homes, peace to all hearts, and prosperity to all,” the message stated (NewKerala.com, Oct. 20, 2025).

With official salutations, acts of service, and community festivities released island-wide, Singapore’s Deepavali this year resonated the nation’s robust message of multicultural harmony and inclusion.

And in fact, as Prime Minister Wong pointed out, “Festivals like Deepavali remind us that diversity is our strength and when we stand together, our light shines even brighter.”
